Tax Dodgers Run 2022

On Sunday 14th August at 10.00am, approximately 20 riders on a wide selection of over 40 years old motorbikes left Marston's social club for a relaxed Sunday morning run to Mountsorrel and Rothley heritage centre.  Lead by Mick Leach with Ian Baxter on his BSA sidecar unit as last man we used the first man drop-off system which on this occasion worked very well, every rider stayed on their corners until the last man arrived.

We turned left out of Marston's and then down Shobnall Steet, headed to Rolleston on Dove, down Marston Lane to Hilton and then Willington.  Unfortunately Mick Dughan's engine died just before Willington. Several of us stopped to try to get Mick going again but when we couldn't, Dave Giles offered to fetch his trailer from Marston's to rescue Micks bike.  The rest of us carried on and thanks to all the riders that staying on the corners we soon got back on track through Repton, Milton and Ticknall towards Ashby and past Staunton Harold Hall.  We meandered along country roads through woodlands to Quorn and Mount Sorrel where two more riders left us on route leaving 16 riders arriving at Mountsorrel and Rothley heritage centre. We spent an hour at the centre giving us plenty of time for refreshments and a chat before leaving.  We returned the same way before heading to Heath End and Boundary then down the A511 through Woodville,  Midway and on to Burton on Trent.

Vic managed to run out of petrol at the bottom of the dip by Bretby golf club and was saved by tail end Charlie (also known on this occasion as Ian Baxter) on his BSA sidecar combination  who took Vic to fetch a gallon of fuel.  A great ride out in hot sunny weather.  A big thank you to Mick Leach on this occasion and also to all the club members and committee members for arranging these runs and events.  Andy
