Christmas Social Evening 2023

Our new secretary John Earp has sent a report and photographs for the above event. It was a nice evening event.👍 Eddy.

This year instead of our usual skittles night at the Burton Bridge Brewery we decided to have a Christmas Gathering in our normal meeting room at Marston's club.
Our new Chairman Andy Roberts had suggested that to make it truly authentic we should wear "Christmas Jumpers" to further enhance the Christmas theme.
Unfortunately neither may wife or I owned a Christmas jumper so this was a challenge in itself but after visiting a charity shop in Matlock and a well known clothing store in Burton this problem was as they say 'sorted'.
Ann Davy offered to supply the food paid for with money kindly donated to the Burton Section by the family of David Tyne who sadly passed away earlier this year,
Our previous attendance at the skittles evening had been around 20 people but at a committee meeting we'd decided to raise this to cater for 30 and its a good job we did because in the event, after counting up the figures in the signing in book a grand total of 43 people attended the evening.  We'd also decided to hold a raffle with the proceeds to our chosen charity.
The buffet was very well received by all those attending and I think everyone had their fair share to eat and drink, the whole evening was most enjoyable and a complete success.
Thanks to Ann for purchasing and bringing the food, to all those who gave raffle prizes, to the family of David Tyne for their generous donation to our section, to the staff at Marston's club (who hadn't been expecting us!) and everyone that came along to what was a most enjoyable evening.  A Merry Christmas to all members plus guests and hope to see you in the new year.
John.
